The Nyepi - Day of Silence will be on 07 March 2008
February 5, 2008 - 4:16 pm
Hindu devotees in Bali, aside from applying Gregorian calendar, are also particularly familiar with Balinese traditional calendar that is still in use. Moreover, there is another Saka calendar (probably this remains in use as well in several states of India). On that account, every year Balinese people celebrate New Year at least three times, namely 1 January 2008 and that based on Balinese traditional calendar called Galungan Day (23 January 2008) and Nyepi or Day of Silence on the Saka 1930 New Year falling on 7 March 2008.
As a consequence, during this January, Balinese community is really busy with their New Year celebrations. Following 1 January 2008, the Wednesday of 23 January is the year change pursuant to Balinese traditional calendar. This calendar is sufficiently unique considering it does not mention its year figure and starts on Wednesday. Dungulan that in the Balinese calendar will fall twice as the period of this calendar comprises 210 days.
It’s completely different from two other calendars applying the year figure such as 2008 (Gregorian) and 1930 (Saka). For that purpose, Bali Travel News once again wishes you a Happy New Year (Galungan) and simply read about its whole procession going into detail on the opinion section. Hopefully you find it informative! (www.bali-travelnews.com)
